Knobs, Toggle Switches, and VU Meters Admittedly, I am a sucker for 70’s retro styling. So it comes as no surprise that part of the collection was driven by my fascination for these aesthetics.
My attraction actually started the years these models were released – but with a mere student’s allowance then, all I could do was dream.(They hated knobs, by the way.) With the help of the internet, my understanding towards these vintage units took on a different light. w=300" data-large-file="https://bb3blog.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/2265b-copy.jpg? Affectionately called “Monsters”, these were gargantuan beasts both in size and weight. I shifted my interest to these monsters and was fortunate enough to get hold of some collectible units at fairly reasonable prices since 70’s vintage gear was still under the radar from most audio aficionados here. The Marantz Model 2325 is considered by many to be one of the best sounding Marantz receivers.
It may not pack the power of the 2500 or 2600 (though it’s 125 watts surely can drive most speakers), but is regarded to be more musical than its higher powered siblings.
Of course there was Pioneer, Sony, Technics and others that carved their respective marks in audio.
